The Oklahoman is reporting that a reward is now being offered for information regarding the hit-and-run crash involving Alan Spencer earlier this year:
A $6,000 reward has been offered for information in connection with the death of an Edmond man who was hit while riding his bicycle.
Alan Spencer, 56, was killed about 8:45 a.m. July 17 when he was struck from behind by a motor vehicle while riding south in the 12500 block of Midwest Boulevard. The motorist left the scene and did not report the wreck to police.

The money has been raised by the area cycling community. Additionally, there may be more reward money from the Oklahoma City Crimestoppers.
The story also confirms previous reports that the case is currently being handled by the Oklahoma City Police Department as a homicide due to “suspicious circumstances” regarding the crash.

Yet another fatal crash:
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said a 19-year-old driver hit and killed a bicyclist just west of Stillwater Sunday.
Troopers said James Hazzard told them the sun was glaring in his eyes and he was adjusting his sunglasses when he swerved into the shoulder and hit 56-year-old Debra Miller.
She was flown to OU Medical Center where she later died.

News9 is reporting on the families personal investigation into the hit-and-run killing of Alan Spencer three weeks ago:
In the three weeks since the crash no one has come forward with information regarding the crash and now the Spencer family is desperate for answers. Today, friends and family, with help from the community, are gathering at the Memorial Road Church of Christ in an effort to gather information about that day.

I’m really getting tired and upset reporting on cyclists deaths in Oklahoma. This is purely anecdotal, but I don’t remember this many fatal accidents in recent memory. Last night, a man was killed near Woodward while riding at night. The story doesn’t give many details, but implies that the man was riding without proper lighting. However, I’m not generally inclined to trust police descriptions of bicycle accidents.

A cyclist has been killed here in Oklahoma City tonight. From NewsOK.com:
About 9:15 p.m., James Smith II, 60, was riding southbound on his bicycle in the outside lane of N Rockwell Avenue near the Northwest Expressway when he made a sharp left turn, Holland said. The minivan was driving behind Smith and its driver could not stop in time or avoid him, and Smith hit the windshield and was then run over.

It is always very sad to hear about such a tragedy. This acts as a sad reminder that we should all be safe out there especially at night.
